Contests and Body Alive Maui!

The only way to continue one's education outside of school is to become one's own teacher.  After the world body painting festival I have been entering online face and body art contests in order to better myself as an artist.  My newest work can be seen at www.racheldeboer.com.  Also I have been organizing a new body painted theater and dance show called Body Alive Maui for an interactive arts festival named Source here in Maui.  Source will go off in Feburary of 2009 and its theme is: The Great Expression.
You can follow this link to another blog I have (funny, blog leading to blog) all about Source and the dream of mine of combining theater and body art together.  Check out these links:    Source 2009   and    http://innerspatial.wordpress.com/
Body Alive Maui is based on Art Color Ballet, a revolutionary dance troupe in Poland that utilizes body art to help tell its story and transmit its theme and mood to the audience.  The body art determines the dance. It becomes the costume and the character of the dancer, his or her look and his or her emotion is immediately transparent.
If only all humans wore their intentions on their skin so readily.

World Body Painting Festival

Well the 33rd year of my life has really taken off.  My Dad always said that God helps those who help themselves and I've decided to run with that theme this year.  Just a month ago I traveled to Austria to compete in the World Body Painting Festival and won third place in the Semi-Pro Brush/Sponge Bodypainting Division (for more info check out www.bodypainting-festival.com and www.racheldeboer.com).  It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. To be on an international stage of professional artists, completely new to the scene, a total newcomer and to actually prove not just to others but to myself that I do indeed have talent in this new art form I have embraced is incredible.  I always thought of myself as only a performance artist but now I see that we humans are like the phoenix, constantly reinventing and rebirthing ourselves out of the ashes of our old selves.  I love life and I love the muse and I love the act of creation.  I cant imagine doing anything else with my life except love and beauty.

The B in R show!

The B in R show is a newly created collaboration from the minds of Rachel Deboer and Brenton Keith on the island of Maui, Hawaii.  Brenton Keith is a professional magician (see his website- www.magicbrent.com) that has teamed up with Rachel Deboer a professional performance artist, comedian, and puppeteer to create an original show merging magic and theater that can entertain kids or adults.  Our show is named The B in R show, B for Brenton and R for Rachel, which fortuitously spells participation and interaction with the audience.
We want the audience to be in our show with us by utilizing audience volunteers during the magic and theater aspects of the show.  We break the fourth wall all the time and invite the audience to be in our show and add to the hilarity and surrealism of our presentation.
The B in R most recently performed "Off the Deep End" at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Mall in Maui on June 5th, 2008 for their ocean themed event. Moondoggie the magician and Mariah Carey about the Sea mermaid were on hand to educate the audience about protecting the ocean from litter.

My New Website

Well, I've finally created a website for my two main loves: theater/performance art and body art. My website is www.racheldeboer.com and now begins the frantic assimiliation of how a website works and who to send it to. Check back to this blog spot for updates on news of my travels to Europe this summer for the World body painting festival which a link can be found on my website. This website marks a new phase in my career and a new self-realization that I have something special to offer the world: my passion for creating beautiful art.
